Herbert Ploberger

Herbert Ploberger (1902-1977) was born in Wels (Upper Austria). In 1921 he began his studies at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts under F. Cizek. In 1925 he studied in Paris. In 1927 Ploberger moved to Berlin, where he did illustrations for the magazines Der Querschnitt and Simplizissimus

In 1930 he worked with Max  Reinhardt in Berlin and in 1933 for the famous Faust settings of the Salzburg Festival. Between 1934 and 1944 he worked in the film industry e.g. for the Ufa as a set and costume designer. From 1946 to 1950 Ploberger was employed as a set designer at the Landestheater in Linz and at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, and between 1951and 1977 he did again filmwork in Munich.
